Introduction

There is widespread recognition that mental health is an issue of major importance for young people in Ireland. The Government is committed to developing policies and services that meet the needs of young people through engaging directly with them.

The National Children’s Strategy states that ‘children and young people will have a voice on issues that affect their lives’. My Office, the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA), has the lead role in driving implementation of this objective and has established structures to ensure that children and young people can contribute to the development of policies and services that affect them.
